Home Made Fish Head Noodle @ Mid Valley Megamall

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 8
  • Price (1-10): 7.5
  • Environment (1-10): 7.5
27 July 2011: Home Made Fish Head Noodle in Mid Valley Megamall mainly serves wide variety of fish head noodles in a clean and comfortable environment. Besides fish head noodles, other dishes such as rice, porridge, etc. are also available here.

Here are what we had...

Fish Paste Mee Hoon (RM9.50++) -> I like the soup, very tasty. The fish paste is quite good as well. Worth a try.

Deep-Fried Chicken with Fermented Bean-curd (RM7.30++) -> Crispy skin with tender and juicy meat. Fermented bean-curd makes the chicken taste really great. Recommended.

I'm quite satisfied with the food served here. I will definitely go again to try other dishes in the menu. However, I think that they are understaffed and most of the staffs are not well-trained. Hence, the service is quite slow.

KFC O.R. Quarter Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce @ KL Sentral

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 7
  • Price (1-10): 7.5
  • Environment (1-10): 7.5
27 July 2011: After trying KFC O.R. Chicken Chop, today I tried the newly introduced O.R. Quarter Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce.

I was looking forward to try what can the black pepper sauce do to the fried chicken with its prominent KFC signature spices. Here comes the O.R. Quarter Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce Combo Meal...

  • Quarter Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce -> The chicken still tastes like typical KFC fried chicken (original). The black pepper sauce, which is salty-based, did not really make much difference because the chicken is too well-marinated with typical KFC spices, which is salty too. Other types of sauce such as Thai sauce or sweet and sour sauce might create surprises.
  • Butterscotch Bun -> Slightly dry, not soft and tender enough.
  • Corn Kennels -> Not bad (this can't go too far :P).

Mama Chops Papa Grill @ Axis Atrium, Ampang

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 6
  • Price (1-10): 7
  • Environment (1-10): 7
26 July 2011: My mom and I decided to try out Mama Chops Papa Grill in Axis Atrium, which is just walking distance from my house. Here's what we had...

Chicken Chop + Soft Drink Combo (RM12.50) -> The chicken chop (ala carte) costs RM11.30. The chicken chop served is grilled deboned quarter chicken served with potato fries, mixed vegetables and creamy hot and spicy black pepper sauce. The portion of grilled chicken and fries is slightly smaller than average. I personally don't like the black pepper sauce because I can't really taste black pepper. In fact, the sauce tastes a bit sourish. Besides, the fries are either too soft or too hard. None of the fries is crispy. Not recommended.

Restoran Puchong Kari Enam @ Taman Esplanade

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 5
  • Price (1-10): 6
  • Environment (1-10): 7
21 July 2011: I have mentioned in my previous post on Restoran Puchong Kari Enam (浦种咖哩鱼头) in Taman Esplanade that I won't give it another chance, yet I still went again. This is because my dad was not there last time, he just can't resist fish head, even though we have warned him that the curry fish head there is not worth eating.

Initially we planned to try steamed fish head or fish head with soup. However, grouper fish head is not available for this 2 types of cooking method. We can only opt for curry fish head if we want grouper fish. Hence, here are what we eventually ordered...

  • Marmite Pork Ribs (吗蜜排骨) (RM20) -> Taste different from marmite pork ribs that I normally eat. On top of that, the taste doesn't absorb into the meat. Texture of the meat is unreasonable too hard, very difficult to cut and chew. Too bony and there are quite many pieces of tiny bones. The worst marmite pork ribs I have ever eaten.
  • Curry Grouper Fish Head with Additional Fish Meat (咖哩石斑鱼头加鱼肉) (RM42) -> My dad ordered curry fish head mixed with some fish meat (small). However, the waitress understood it as additional fish meat and charged us additional RM15 for the few pieces of fish meat. A small portion of curry fish head costs RM27. We think that this is outrageously expensive for a small pot of curry fish head, few pieces of fish meat and a lot of vegetables that tastes really common.
  • Stir-fried Vege (RM12) -> Ironically, this is the best dish of the meal.
In conclusion, this restaurant serves food that's below average in quality at unreasonably high price. My father even suggested to go for second round of dinner because he's seriously not satisfied with this meal.

Le Porc Dor Restaurant @ Old Klang Road

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 7.5
  • Price (1-10): 7.5
  • Environment (1-10): 7
20 July 2011: I bought a few "50% off 4 Course Set Meal + Herbal Tea @ Le Porc Dor 老婆多 Restaurant" discount coupons from Everyday Coupons. Le Porc Dor serves non-halal, traditional, home-cooked food with no MSG added. Although there are limited tables and seats in the restaurant, the environment there is very cozy and comfortable.

I paid RM8.90 for a 4 Course Set Meal which includes:
  • Main Dishes + Soup + Vege + Rice ( worth RM14.90 )
  • Herbal Tea ( worth RM3.00 )
The list of available main dishes and soup are shown in the menu. We used 2 coupons today and here are what we had...

For main dish, we ordered:

  • Lemongrass Curry Chicken (香茅咖喱鸡) -> Quite tasty and thick curry. Recommended.
  • Special Braised Pork (怪味卤猪肉) -> The sauce taste like bosch soup. Although it doesn't commonly go with pork, the taste is still acceptable. Worth a try.
As for the soup, here are what we selected:

  • Wintermelon Barley Soup (冬瓜薏米汤) -> It's not a common practice to cook wintermelon with barley. Barley causes the soup to be unusually murky. Tastes slightly too plain.
  • Pepper Pig Stomach Soup (胡椒猪肚汤) -> Tastes too plain. Can't really taste the pepper.

Here comes the vege and herbal tea. Both taste average.

On top of the 2 set meals, we ordered half a dozen of pork satay (RM8) because this is not commonly available in Malaysia. The satay taste average. This is just for the sake of trying, I still prefer chicken satay.

Sri Petaling Steamboat Palace @ Sri Petaling

* I just notice recently that this restaurant is closed down/relocated. It's not there anymore...

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 7.5
  • Price (1-10): 7
  • Environment (1-10): 7
14 July 2011: We were looking for a place for dinner in Sri Petaling. We came across Sri Petaling Steamboat Palace (大城堡火锅城) and decided to give it a try. We were seated not knowing that it serves steamboat and barbeque buffet, which cost RM27.60 for adult and RM13.90 for child (below 90cm of height).

When we were initially informed of the head charge, I think that it's slightly overpriced. However, after surveying the ingredients available, I think the price is quite reasonable. There are live seafood (crabs and oysters), fish, pork, vegetables, mushrooms and other commonly available ingredients for seafood. Most of the ingredients are fresh and can be used for either steamboat or barbeque.

For barbeque, we only need to choose the ingredients we want and pass them to the staff to barbeque for us. Besides, the buffet also include barbeque chicken wings, which are quite tasty. We enjoy the barbequed food a lot because the sauce used is really tasty.

As for steamboat, we chose herbal and tom yam soup base. The soup taste average because they are a bit too plain. We feedback on this to a staff there (might be the owner) and he explained that the soups are cooked using natural ingredients, without artificial flavoring. However, we still think that the soup can be better if cooked using more natural ingredients for longer hours (which will lead to lower profit).

In conclusion, I think that this place is worth a try if you like barbeque/grilled food (especially seafood).

Delicious @ Bangsar Village II

Rating:
  • Food (1-10): 7.5
  • Price (1-10): 7
  • Environment (1-10): 8
5 July 2011: My colleagues and I went to Delicious in Bangsar Village II again for a birthday celebration.

Here are what we ordered this time...

  • Caesar Salad with Chargrilled Chicken (RM28.80++) -> Ingredients used for salad are quite fresh and tasty. Chargrilled chicken is a bit too dry.
  • Turkey Ham & Cheese Toastie (RM16.90++) -> Crispy, fluffy and tasty. Recommended.
  • Traditional Nasi Lemak (RM25.90++) -> Nasi lemak with ayam rendang, sambal udang and other traditional accompaniments. Huge portion and taste quite good. Worth a try.
  • Fish & Chips (RM29.90++) -> Quite good. We like the tartar sauce.
  • Carbonara Spaghetti (RM23.90++) -> With wild mushrooms, beef bacon, oregano & cream. This is not bad this time, taste better than my previous visit.
  • Mango Cheesecake (RM11.90++) -> The mango cubes on top of the cake are actually pickled mango which completely doesn't go well with cheesecake. Besides, the cake itself taste like normal cheesecake, there's no mango taste at all. We complained to the waiter on this and the price of this cake is eventually waived.
Finally, I would like to mention on the service efficiency here. We notice that Delicious is seriously understaffed. We waited for unreasonably long for the dessert to be served and settling the bill. Hence, it's not recommended to dine here during peak hour.

Utopia Veggie Cuisine @ OUG Plaza

Rating:

1 July 2011: On this vegetarian day, I went to Utopia Veggie Cuisine (庭园素食风味小筑) again. I went there for dinner this time.

Here are what we had...

  • Mutton Rendang (RM10) -> Very thick and tasty rendang. Vegetarian mutton's texture assembles real mutton. Recommended.
  • Herbal Soup with Fish Slices (RM8) -> Not bad for vegetarian soup. Worth a try.
